Around Habkern

* (1/2 hour) Easy walk around the village: Post office - "Steinacker" - "Halte", past the church, built in 1666, and back to the post office.

* (1 1/2 hours) Round trip hike: Start at the post office heading towards "Bohlseite" across the Traubach bridge. After a short ascent turn left towards "Bohlseite", walk past old, pretty houses, across the Lamm bridge, leave the little road and turn left, descend to the Traubach (mountain creek), on the other side of the valley back up to "Chrüz" and return to the village on an even road.

* (1 3/4 hours) Start at the post office and walk towards the Sporthotel, past the public pool and the ski lift on an even road to the "Schützenhaus" (clubhouse), the saw mill and across the bridge to "Blosmoos". Turn left and slowly ascend through lush mountain pastures and woods to the "Almihütten". While decending on a paved road you can enjoy a marvellous view of the entire Habkern valley. Passing "Euste" you return to the village.

(2 hours) Follow the paved road ascending to "Euste" and further to "Hellboden" (partially rocky and unpaved). When descending to "Bort" let your eyes be spoiled by the view of the breath-taking Jungfrau mountain, Lake Thoune and the "Bödeli" (the name for the area between the two lakes comprising the communities of Interlaken, Unterseen, Matten, Wilderswil and Bönigen). Following the road you will return to the village.

* (3 hours [*]) Follow the road towards "Blosmoos" and continue the easy ascent in the direction of "Grünenbergpass". After you have crossed the bridge at "Kaltbach" (follow the signs), turn left and follow the narrow road and path until you reach "Alp Chromatte". From this idyllically situated alp the signs pointing south will direct you past "Almi" down to the Habkern village.

(3 hours [*]) Walk down the main road towards Interlaken until you reach the new bridge crossing the Lombach, leave the road turning left. Cross the old bridge and continue on the the little road leading upward to the "Luegiwald"-turnoff, turn left to "Luegiboden". Here, resting left of the way, you will see the famous "Luegiboden"-stone. It is by far Europe's largest granite exotic (Habkern granite, 5000 cubic metres). It has been under nature conservancy protection for the past 100 years. A piece of this stone was shipped to America in 1852 as a present from the Swiss Conferation to be used for the Washington Memorial.
Shortly after this magical place, the steep descent to the Lombach (mountain creek) commences. Cross the creek on the newly built footbridge and climb up to "Schwendi". Follow the road along the footpath down to the Bohlbach- and the Traubach-bridge and continue until you reach the village.

Lombachalp - Moorlands Habkern-Sörenberg

Mystical moors, scraggy spruces and mountain pines, gently flowing creeks and bizarre fields of karst shape the landscape around Lombachalp. Along with Sörenberg it is part of one of Switzerland's largest and most impressive moorlands. In this environment of fens and upland moors, of shrubs, groves and rocks animals like capercaillies, black grouses, snow grouses, red deer, ibex, mountain goats and mountain hares feel at home. Many legends revolve around Lombachalp, telling stories of herdsmen, farmers and raftsmen. At the same time, the moorland provides the hearty basis for exquisite regional products, such as moutain butter and cheese.
